History
Traditionally, willow (salix americana) has been a grown in the West of Scotland. The old Scottish word for willow is 'Sauchie' hence the famous Glasgow street 'Sauchiehall Street'. Mrs Cranston's Willow Tearoom, designed by Charles Rennie McIntosh, still stands on Sauchiehall Street. Basket weaving died out in the early 1960's when British Railways closed their factory on Saracen Street in Glasgow, but now Pannier Products are re-introducing this craft.
